Cancon 2026 was an amazing experience!
Over the course of three days we ran 26 games for 64 players! It was a refreshing mix of role-players: very experienced, complete novices and occasional gamers. We even reconnected with players fondly remembering games they played of Hunter Planet in the late 1980’s.
(Or as it is sometimes referred to dismissively – “The late 1900’s”)

From a slow start as visitors and players at Cancon went around to see what was on across the many buildings used by the convention, word began to spread that “Hunter Planet was Back!”. Initially we had a game here, a game there and pretty soon all three of us were running adventures for 2 to 3 players per game.
One of the updates to Hunter Planet has been the streamlining of the mechanics so that two player games work well. Adding in more players extends the game time and experience with players of all size games achieving the same result – great amusement and tales to share afterwards. One of our players who fondly remembered his one game of Hunter Planet back in 1987, was laughing at the end of his game. He said, “Wow. It’s the same fun as I remembered. Sign me up!”

Rather than use a large fancy printed sign which all savvy modern people ignore due to well documented “Banner Blindness”, our excellent Master of the Arts created a white board description of what was happening. And it worked. Once anyone stopped to examine this weird sign more closely, we volunteered them into a game.
The Definition of Dapper
The organisers that admirably managed the challenging task of matching interested visitors to available games had a challenge when there were no places in and of the main games. “Send them to us!” we said, “All are welcome.”
“Yay!” they said, “We’ll just send them to the table described as ‘The definition of Dapper’”

Those that remember the first release of Hunter Planet 2nd Edition at various conventions in 1987 remember my white suit. A suit stands out above the standard dress at conventions of T-shirt and jeans. We set the Hunter Planet Standard of suit and tie, or vest with fancy shirt, or a costume.

It was a very hot weekend but we were lucky to have just enough air conditioning for us to continue running our games and sharing the new of Hunter Planet and the upcoming Kickstart campaign in June. Our voices may be very worn, but our enthusiasm is renewed. Each night we exchanged stories of the adventures www had run. We’ll share these in future posts.
The one sad feature? Our link to join the mailing list was broken! So al those that tried to sign up failed. But you can rectify that right now:
