In Hunter Planet your character has a 25% chance of surviving the game. Approximately.
But that is OK. Hunter Planet is not a campaign game. It thrives on being a break from the more detailed games, allowing players to recharge their creative batteries, indulge in experiments in varied dangerous situations and have a god laugh while doing so.
Your character sheet is the basis for your part in the story unfolding before you. How you react and what assets (or liabilities) you bring to the party start with your character sheet.
The first part is simple – Your name, character name and something about it. Remember – you are anything but human. And you can have any job so long as it has no military relationship.
Here is a sample front page. Young Mr Oddbody is playing a sloth like toad creature whose job is inspecting vehicles. It isn’t that he is bad, per se, but more that he is lazy and looking for a quick credit. This normally means he spends far more time looking for loopholes and exceptions and scams than actually doing the job he is hired to do.

The he rolled a 10 sided die for each Characteristic. Any two can be re-rolled, but if the roll is worse, bad luck. His Intelligence characteristic was originally 5 and he wanted to try for higher but re-rolled a 4. Luck can be no higher than a 6.
Hit points are 11 – 20 (10 plus one 10 sided die roll).
What are characteristics for?
They serve two functions:
- The CM may use these when determining your success at a desired action.
- “I want to kick down the door!”
- “Roll,” requests the CM.
- “82,” answers Mr Oddbody sadly
- “You hurt your leg. Want to try again?” answers the CM, seeing his strength was 6 and dexterity 8. Besides, the door isn’t even locked and no-one has tried the latch.
- The player utilises the characteristics for roleplaying in situations he encounters.
- CM: “The door wobbled, but didn’t budge.”
- Mr Oddbody: “Hang on, I have 9 perception. Um, I look at door carefully. Can I open it?”
- CM: ” Certainly. Your great perception, now you are using it, notice the door has a simple latch.”
- Mr Ossbody: “I use the latch to open the door.”
- CM: “Easy, it slides open, but not smoothly as someone bent it a bit ou of shape.” (This did not need high perception, but it always helps)
The next step to creating your character is getting your weapons and equipment in Part 2…
